Altered Boxes Art Workshop with Cristina Hajosy
Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 10am to 4pm
Tuition: $125
Limited to 6 students
Includes all materials, technique handouts and lunch!
Creating a special box to house an artist’s book, a portfolio of prints, special gift, or a personal treasure can be one of the most satisfying ways to finish a project. The craftsmanship of a well-made box, in some cases, will eclipse what’s inside. The box provides a protective enclosure while creating an expectation in the viewer and an immediate, tactile connection with the holder.
Our day will begin with a look at the possibilities and Cristina’s large collection of found boxes to find your perfect choice for the first project. The workshop will introduce the materials and techniques for box making, adhesives, and best practices for cutting, sizing, and creating more projects in your own art space.
The morning will begin with fresh brewed coffee and home-baked goodies at 9:45am, and we’ll break for a fresh, vegetarian lunch with homemade soup, salad and sandwiches.
Take a look through my library of altered book content, sheet music, maps, gift wrap and my collection of box forms for inspiration or discover something new by combining elements from several structures. Start the journey by picking your materials from Cristina’s curated collection of paste papers, marbled papers, and interesting, locally-sourced papers, as well as, her collection of antique and contemporary book cloths. Interesting choices for ties, elastic cordings, ribbons, buttons and beads will also be available for the perfect finishing touch.
So many possibilities!
Open to everyone ages 18 & up, all media and skill levels.
