with the Womens’ Caucus for Art, New Hampshire chapter
Inspired by Mary Cassatt’s Little Girl on a Blue Arm Chair at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., this WCA/NH Virtual Open asks artists for the artwork that brings comfort, whether it’s a favorite kept around for years, or a medium or genre that is the go-to when that moment of creative comfort is most needed.
What are the politics of home? How do you survive a marriage during a pandemic? during a presidential election? with the most decisive America of our lifetime? The project combines color photography, altered books and visual journal entries featuring old family photos and writings on my last year, the passing of my parents, maturing into my 50s, and finding peace and clarity at home.
The stresses of the pandemic have caused us to adapt and to find comforts in unexpected and often polarized circumstances. For me, as the proud parent to a baby Bosc pear tree, its first harvest of only two seemed perfect in so many ways.
