Workshop Title: Fabric Marbling
Date & Time: Sunday, June 3, 2018 – 10am to 4pm
Location: Canton, MA
Limited to 4 students
Tuition: $140 includes all materials, technique handouts and lunch
The exploration continues! Fabric marbling is a glorious way to spend a day. Both a delight in the making, as well as the having. You’ll be amazed at the process and the products.
We’ll focus on Turkish-style marbling. This method, “Ebru”, can produce lovely figurative designs of fish, flowers, birds. and abstract shapes or go with the traditional combed patterns. Your floating designs may be free-form, combed, or even blown. Embrace the design experiment with a wide variety of fabrics, sizes and finishes to inspire your creativity.
Spend the morning learning the process or jump right in, if you’re familiar with the materials.
This workshop is structured to be an introduction for beginners or an open studio for intermediate or advanced students.
Fostering an open, relaxed environment where all levels of artists can learn and share ideas, producing beautiful fabrics and products, and expanding your art practice; that’s what it’s all about.
The morning will begin with fresh brewed coffee and home-baked goodies at 9:45am, and we’ll break for a fresh, vegetarian lunch with homemade soup, salad and sandwiches.
Each participant will have their own vat for printing in different sizes to fit the dimensions of the fabrics and products. Typical choices include:
Fabric Yardage in cotton, silk, polyester, rayon and blends
Pre-sewn “Blanks” in silks and cotton to include pocket squares, large square cotton napkins, and long and large square scarves
Ribbons in a variety of fabrics
Of course, you’ll have custom color mixing for plenty of choices. You’ll leave with a pile of fabric marbling, strategies for marbling on your own, and a cookie in your mouth.
Open to everyone ages 18 & up, all media and skill levels. It’s a messy business, so please dress accordingly!
