Mixed Media Books
Teen Intensive Ages 13 – 17
For many contemporary artists, the journey into mixed media starts with the photographic image. This intensive will explore the possibilities within different techniques, concepts and contexts. Image transfers, collage, assemblage, monotype printing and artist’s bookbinding will contribute to the elevation of the photographic image. Projects focusing on series, pop culture and self-portraits will encourage personal experimentation.
Students will experiment with their own photography, Cristina’s samples, public imagery, and a wide variety of magazine clip art. Learning to appreciate color and texture, combining text with images, and finding personally gratifying subjects and symbolism will be our goals. Projects change each term to give returning students a new experience.
Brookline Arts Center’s Summer Intensives offer students the opportunity to explore artistic mediums of their choosing in both a focused and fun environment. Classes encourage individual artistic exploration as well as introduce and develop techniques and skills for each medium.
Our weekly program culminates in an art show designed to showcase and celebrate each student’s artistic accomplishments. Light refreshments and lively art conversation bring together the artists and their families. Cristina’s Chocolate-Cinnamon Oatmeal Crisps are always a hit.
Classes meet from 9:00am-2:00pm, Monday through Friday, with a 30 minute lunch break and one mid-morning snack break. Weather permitting, students will take breaks in the beautiful park adjacent to the building.
We love to make an artistic mess! So wearing an old smock, apron, or t-shirt is suggested.
