Transform books and boxes into art objects. They become a canvas, a sculpture or a reliquary of personally meaningful content. Draw inspiration from the book’s author or content, or purely use the book as a structure. Incorporate paper cutting, collage, bookmaking and other processes. Cristina will have books and boxes on hand, or bring your own, along with small objects and images to include. Learn bookmaking, paper cutting, drawing and collage techniques to reinvent books and boxes into something new.
An altered book is “”any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art.”” With no rules, the possibilities are only limited by your own imagination.
Throughout the day, we’ll construct several projects to practice techniques and to get familiar with the materials. A large assortment of scrap papers, collage materials…random bits of all sorts will be available. Think about adding your own photos, personal artifacts, and ephemera to the mix!
Members: $150 Non-members:$175; $30 materials fee paid to instructor in class
