Transform books, old or new, into art objects. The book becomes a canvas, a sculpture or a reliquary of personally meaningful content. Draw inspiration from the book’s author or content, or purely use the book as a structure. Incorporate paper cutting, collage, bookmaking and other processes. Cristina will have books on hand, or bring your own, along with small objects and images to include. Expand your knowledge of photography’s basics and develop your personal visual style with photographer, Cristina Hajosy in her Intermediate Photography Workshop at the Eliot School in Jamaica Plain. Start with a review of basic photographic principles and camera controls with creative assignments and visual exercises in class. Work on personal projects and also learn from other students and contemporary photographer’s portfolios. Flag books have wonderful sculptural possibilities. With multiple angles of view, they provide interesting double narrative potentials, contrasting viewpoints, or “yin and yang”, if you will. Viewers enjoy the visual movement and performative qualities of flag books. They beg the viewer to play and to keep interacting with the artwork. There so many approaches to content.
