Private art instruction can spark the imagination and the art process for all levels of students. As an artist and educator, I cannot stress enough the value of private art classes. The student’s individual needs can be addressed beyond that of the larger group context of the classroom, and the pace of learning can be tailored specifically to each student.
As a mixed media artist, photographer and bookmaker, my goal is to be proficient in all media necessary for the visual communication of my artistic expressions. Depending on the context and content, my art practice varies greatly. From a single photograph framed on the wall to complicated artist’s books with collage, drawing, and decorative paper techniques, having the confidence to execute the art in the most effective media is paramount.
For many, having a structured learning environment improves productivity and helps push the boundaries of the typical art practice into new insights, more spontaneity and fewer self-imposed barriers. As children, we generate art without self-consciousness. Unfortunately, inhibition creeps in with adulthood. Private instruction can help recapture this freedom, allowing the art process to expand and deepen.
Art as therapy. The idea that artistic creation comes from a need to personally express something deep within us has generated new perspectives on the therapeutic benefits of art. The healing power of art can transcend the actual outcome, that is, the act of making the art can be more important than the final artwork itself. As an exercise in self-esteem building, artistic creation can improve confidence and expand the “vocabulary of self”.
Personalized programming. You pick the techniques and the pace. Narrowing the topics to the content, style, and techniques most suited to the student’s projects will improve productivity and final outcome. Whether learning something new or completing a long-term project, private art classes can address your specific needs.
