Saturdays, October 31 – November 21, 2020
10:00 am – 1:30 pm
This workshop combines Paper Marbling and Book Arts for a survey of contemporary uses of marbling throughout the book structure. Far beyond the traditional use of paper marbling as end papers within the interiors of books, we’ll take our marbled creations onto the covers, as the content or “text block”, and even the book cloth.
We’ll begin with the Turkish form of Paper Marbling, Ebru, using carrageenan to thicken our water bath. Each participant will have their own marbling vat, custom color choices, and wide range of papers, cardstocks, book boards and lightweight fabrics to explore while marbling. Binding strategies, artist’s book structures, bookbinding tools, and materials will also be covered. Plenty of time will be provided to complete several personalized books. All materials are included. Dress for a mess, and bring a bagged lunch. All skill levels are welcome!
