Workshop: Paste Papers
Date & Time: Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 10:30am – 3:30pm
Tuition: $105 includes all materials, technique handouts and lunch
Paste paper is one of the earliest forms of surface decoration. In the contemporary context, mixed media artists are finding new uses beyond the traditional book arts. This is a fun, fast-paced decorative art with its true nature seated within the realm of printmaking. As with monoprints, each paste paper is unique.
The morning will begin with fresh brewed coffee & teas and home-baked goodies.
We’ll meet and greet and talk about the history of paste paper and an overview of the process, and then we’ll get busy. We’ll begin with 2 hours of paste work as an artistic stretch. The perfect amount of time for color and texture play along with design experiments.
We’ll apply colors mixed with a thick paste using a variety of tools. Custom color choices, tool-making tips and a wide variety of papers will be available.
We’ll break for a fresh, vegetarian lunch with homemade soup, salad and gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.
We’ll collage while paste papering, using paste as glue, 2-sided paste paper and over-paste papering ideas, as well as waxing finished sheets.
Just a quick note, paste paper is a little messy. I suggest wearing an old shirt! All skill levels and media are welcome. All materials provided.
