Bookmaking Workshop with Cristina Hajosy
Workshop Title: Altered Books
Date & Time: Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 10am to 4pm
Location: The Eliot School for Fine & Applied Art, Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA
Transform books, old or new, into art objects. The book becomes a canvas, a sculpture or a reliquary of personally meaningful content. Draw inspiration from the book’s author or content, or purely use the book as a structure. Incorporate paper cutting, collage, bookmaking and other processes. Cristina will have books on hand, or bring your own, along with small objects and images to include. Transform used books into art objects. Learn bookmaking, paper cutting, drawing, collage and decollage techniques to reinvent used books into something new.
An altered book is “any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art.” With no rules, the possibilities are only limited by your own imagination.
Throughout the day, we’ll construct several projects to practice techniques and to get familiar with the materials. A large assortment of scrap papers, collage materials…random bits of all sorts will be available. Think about adding your own photos, personal artifacts, and ephemera to the mix!
Open to everyone ages 18 & up, all media and skill levels.
Tuition: $90
Materials fee: $25, payable in class.
