Flag books have wonderful sculptural possibilities. With multiple angles of view, they provide interesting double narrative potentials, contrasting viewpoints, or “yin and yang”, if you will. Viewers enjoy the visual movement of flag books. They beg the viewer to play and to keep interacting with the artwork. There are so many approaches to content. Excellent for creative poetry, wish lists, sweet nothings, photographs, abstract designs, and more. We’ll cover basic adhesive skills, using both glues and adhesive transfer methods, use of bone folder infolding, scoring, and adhesive control, and all the basic skills needed for bookmaking. There’s plenty of time for discussion about personal project ideas, hybrid possibilities, and conceptual potentials while getting it done.
Cristina’s stash of hand printed marbled and paste papers will inspire many great combinations of colors and textures. Beads, buttons, ribbons and threads will be available to complete the projects. All materials are provided along with technique handouts. All skill levels are welcome!
We have limited the class size to 8 for your safety and comfort and to provide more availability of the instructor to each student. You will work at individual desks, spaced well apart in our spacious and airy Plummer Studio. All students must agree to comply with LexArt safety protocols. Bring your own mask. We will provide you with a Face Shield for added protection, which is yours to keep.
