Workshop: Personal Photo Albums
Make it personal. That’s always the best gift, even if it’s for yourself. I’ve always been drawn to the notion of a photo album. As a refined memory of family and friends. As a trophy of experience, events, or travels. As a touchstone for those I cherish. The handheld album has a physical connection for me; something lacking in our digital world. For this workshop, it will be real photos mounted in handmade albums. A variety of sizes, print capacities, and bind techniques will be created. You’ll learn skills in bookmaking, layout design, photomontage, collage, and photo mounting. Pre-workshop advising on your photo selections and subject matter/theme is encouraged.

Workshop: Paste Paper Projects
Introduced in the Middle Ages in Northern Europe, Paste Paper is a decorative paper technique that produces highly textured surface design. In our contemporary context, we can jump past it’s initial uses in bookbinding to more varied ideas like stationary, gift wrap, packaging, home decor, as well as unlimited fine art areas like collage, assemblage, and mixed media. Perfectly suited to a one-day workshop, this fast-paced, hands-on art experience will be fun, messy, and even productive. Projects will range from seasonal decorations and gift ideas to ready to frame artworks.

Workshop: Enamel Suminagashi
Traditional Japanese marbling takes a contemporary turn with this form of marbled surface decoration. Swirling colors float easily upon water to create a dynamic, natural watery feel to the designs. Enamels are perfectly suited for glass, metal, plastic, wood, as well as paper. With a wide array of home decor items and dimensional substrates from which to choose, picking your favorites shouldn’t be difficult. I’ve chosen a few seasonal favorites, like ornaments and candle votives that could make for memorable gifts, assuming you’re willing to part with them!
