10am – 4pm
Explore the relationship between journals, personal narrative, and creative process through visual collage and mixed media techniques. Join Cristina for a day of bookmaking at the Eliot School in Boston’s Jamaica Plain.

In this workshop, students will experiment with layering, surface treatments, and unconventional connections while discovering how book structures can expand and shape artistic expression.

Through demonstrations and hands-on exploration, students will learn a variety of techniques including collage, packing tape image transfers, text treatments, weaving, and pop-out elements. Along the way, we’ll consider how visual journaling can deepen reflection, inspire new creative directions, and create meaningful connections between everyday experiences and artistic practice.
After exploring different journal formats, students will choose to work in a store-bought journal, altered book, or handmade book for continued development throughout the afternoon.
