Private Paper Marbling Workshop – Thursday evening – September 24, 2015 An evening experimenting with Cristina Hajosy and paper marbling. We’ll focus on Turkish-style marbling. This method, “Ebru”, can produce lovely figurative designs of fish, flowers, birds. and abstract shapes or go with the traditional combed patterns. Your floating designs may be free-form, combed, or even blown. Structured to be an introduction for beginners and open studio for intermediate or advanced students. Learn an exciting, engaging new art. Fostering an open, relaxed environment where all levels of artists can learn and share ideas, producing beautiful papers, and expanding your art practice; that’s what it’s all about.

While many artists use a journal for collecting their thoughts, reflecting on their artistic process, or sketching ideas for future work, a journal can be the final piece of art as well. This one-day workshop will investigate the relationships between the artist, the journal and specifically, the human body. Whether your own body, someone else’s or even an imaginary one…humanity is wide open with its infinite diversity. Come join Cristina Hajosy in her home studio. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 10am to 4pm

Experimental Printmaking (and a Book) – New Adult Workshop at Brookline Adult & Community Education, 4 Tuesdays from September 29 – October 20, 2015 from 6:30 – 9:00pm Printmaking is a process of creative discovery because one can never be sure of what each print will bring. Often, the more fun you have, the better the artwork becomes. As you create and manipulate a series of images, you will become a better image-maker as you work on composition, texture, mood, process, and outcome Repeating an image or similar motifs or symbols always leads to an interesting collection. Conceptual and abstract ideas find a way to enter the process with this relaxed, fun experiment.

Spend a November weekend with Cristina Hajosy making Turkish-style paper marbling at the Concord Art Association. We will create beautiful stone patterns and playful combed designs. Using various techniques, we will expand the concepts into unique creations that highlight the floating and freeform nature of this medium. Working on water thickened with carrageenan (Irish moss), the patterns are easily controlled and the colors become vibrant. Experiment with a wide range of materials, colors, and papers. November 7 from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from noon to 4pm.

This all-day workshop will explore another beloved book structure, the Japanese Puncture binding. It’s also referred to as a “stab” binding, but I prefer the more formal and elegant title. This technique is especially useful because it joins individual sheets. The sheets can be edited and sequenced by the artist, then bound, resequenced and bound again, and again – verses filling a bound book. A little freedom can spark creativity. This is my favorite artist’s book for visual journals, print collections, photo albums, signature books, and upscale scrapbooking.
