This method, “Ebru”, can produce lovely figurative designs of fish, flowers, birds, and abstract shapes or go with the traditional combed patterns. Spring Newton Open Studios – New Art Center group site – April 6-8, 2018

Once again, Hajosy Arts is proud to be participating in this Spring’s Newton Open Studio Weekend. Cristina will be joining her fellow art educators and friends at the New Art Center’s group site. With 25+ artists in one space, it’s certain to provide a lovely stop on the art tour throughout Newton. New this year, we’ll have expanded viewing and receptions, in addition to the Saturday and Sunday times. This city-wide event is always a real treat with 160 artists!

The marbling experience is both mediative and creative for all skill levels and artistic interests. Be prepared for a fun, messy, fast-paced art day that is “engineered for success”. All participants will have their own marbling vat, custom color choices, and plenty of paper types. We’ll explore the historical techniques and contemporary trends in this unique form of aqueous surface decoration. Paste Papers Workshop with Cristina Hajosy in her home studio. Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 10am to 4pm. All materials and lunch included. Paste Paper, one of the earliest forms of decorative papers, is commonly used for bookbinding, as well as calligraphy, printmaking, collage, stamping, and origami. Paste Paper is created using acrylic paint or similar pigments mixed in a suspension of paste. After being applied to a dampened sheet of paper, the colored paste can be patterned by pulling various utensils across the paste. Design your own paper patterns!

Come join Cristina in her studio for this workshop – Paste Papers. Experience a full day of creativity while learning this popular art technique. Introduced in the Middle Ages in Northern Europe, Paste Paper is a decorative paper technique that produces highly textured surface design. In our contemporary context, we can jump past it’s initial uses in bookbinding to more varied ideas like stationary, gift wrap, packaging, home decor, as well as unlimited fine art areas like collage, assemblage, and mixed media. Perfectly suited to a one-day workshop, this fast-paced, hands-on art experience will be fun, messy, and you’ll leave with a mountain of beautiful papers.
