Flag Books
Adult One-day Workshop
The Eliot School’s Annex classroom, 253 Amory St., Jamaica Plain, Boston
Saturday, April 20, 2019
2 – 5 pm
Flag books have wonderful sculptural possibilities.
With multiple angles of view, they provide interesting double narrative potentials, contrasting viewpoints, or “yin and yang”, if you will. Is it some type of struggle, or perhaps a union?
Viewers enjoy the visual movement and performative qualities of flag books. They beg the viewer to play and to keep interacting with the artwork.
There so many approaches to content. Excellent for creative poetry, wish lists, sweet nothings, photographs, abstract designs, and more!
This first project will give you plenty of practice with the materials and techniques. We’ll follow that with another project incorporating repeating text and imagery. A large assortment of scrap papers, collage materials, magazine clippings…random bits of all sorts will be available. Think about adding your own photos, personal artifacts, and ephemera to the mix!
Open to everyone ages 18 & up, all skill levels, artists, non-artists, and you folks that are curious.
Materials fee $25, payable in class.
