Photo-based imagery within mixed media has become very popular. Along side other collage materials, photographs can expand the visual narrative in your art practice. Image transfers give the artist an ability to layer and control the transparency of the ingredients in their artworks. This workshop will focus on the use of photographic images in non-traditional ways. Solvents, acrylic gel medium and adhesive transfers are some of our projects. We’ll explore boundaries between drawing, painting and collage while discovering your artistic message. Bring your favorite images, photos, Xeroxes, and collage scraps.
Join mixed media artist, Cristina Hajosy of Hajosy Arts for an online art workshop. Photo-based Mixed Media – techniques to included collage, image transfers, adhesives and non-traditional connections, photo “illumination” and altered art/books.
For Class #1
Please bring photographs, vintage or your own images, to share and discuss the mixed media potentials for the course.
For Class #2
Waiting until after Class #1 will improve your choice of photograph. Please bring 20 copies of one image in different versions, sizes, color, black & white, reversed (flipped vertically or horizontally), inverted (the negative), or Xeroxed. It’s your choice of photo subject matter. Here’s an example: Start with one image at CVS minilab or other one hour photo lab. Make 4×6’s in color, black & white, brown toned, and then again with zooming to different parts of the image. Glossy and matte surface papers. Take those to Staples or other copy store. Make black & white and color copies and use the copy machine controls to alter the image. Make it one color, make it really faint, make it high contrast, print on colored paper, vellum, sticker sheets, etc. Print at home using ink-jet and/or laser printers. The goal is to have a variety of versions of this one image.
Four 2-hour Zoom sessions, online videos and PDF downloads of technique handouts, and shipped materials will combine with your photographs and personal ephemera.
